Missed Opportunity In Missing Republican Leadership - And Response

Wednesday, July 31, 2013

So the President announces that he will give a speech in Chattanooga. A speech in which the advance word stated he would offer reducing corporate tax rates in exchange infrastructure spending.

Now here in Chattanooga we have a big infrastructure project that we have been trying to get funds for.

I'm talking about the repairs on the Chickamauga Lock. Repairs that if not completed will result in the end of traffic and commerce on our section of the river.

One would think the governor, our two senators, and two local congressmen would be concerned with that. One would think when the President came to our town offering to lower corporate taxes, a Republican goal, in exchange for infrastructure work these Republicans should want that they would be here to deal. It would to be a win-win for local Republicans

But our congressmen and senators could not give their voting proxies to trusted colleagues and fly down on Air Force 1 for one day.

Our governor couldn't make time for the President. In fact except a few City Council members, state legislators, and former Congressman Zach Wamp the Republican shut out was complete.

Apparently supporting the Republican team narrative was more important than working with President and getting the people's business done.

Guys it is called governing. You might look that word up sometime.

Thank you so much, Mr. Young, for explaining the importance of respecting and working with those in leadership, no matter the party affiliation.

I also would like to thank Congressman Zach Wamp for respecting the commander in chief and not fading into the sunset.   You are truly missed by all who care about the Chickamauga Lock repairs.
