A woman who had planned to attend the Chattacon sci-fi convention was found beaten in her room at the Read House just before midnight Saturday.

Police said Dawn Schneider, 28, of Huntsville, Ala., was found lying on the floor of room 355 after friends became concerned about her.

She was found with injuries to her face, arms and to her right leg, which apparently was broken. She was taken by ambulance to Erlanger Medical Center, where she remains hospitalized.

Police spokesman Craig Joel said when the woman was able to talk, she said she "had fallen." He said the case is still under investigation.

Police said she had apparently been planning to take part in live acting at the convention in a role as a vampire. But she never made it to the event. Chattacon officials said she had not registered to take part in the vampire role playing event.

Chloe Kelsch, 20, of Atlanta, had gone to the room at 11:47 p.m. Saturday to check on her after saying she had not seen her since Friday at 4 p.m. She got security to open the door.

Sometime early Saturday morning, a loud altercation was heard happening in her room, and the people in the
adjoining room alert hotel staff. By the time they went to the room, the noise had stopped so they did not enter the room at that time.

Ms. Schneider goes by the professional name of "Dawn
Marie" and has a website that she promotes. She has a webcam of herself as well as scenes of herself in various costumes on the site.

She arrived at the Read House Friday evening, and she never registered with the convention though she said on the website she planned to attend.

Chattacon has been held annually since 1974 and had over 1,200 attendees this year.
