Drew David Kirkman was bound to the Grand Jury on two murder charges Friday after testimony about the brutal death of a Cleveland, Tenn., couple.
Det. John Dailey testified that Kirkman became angry over a check scam and broke off the leg of a coffee table and began beating the couple. He later stabbed them and also shot them, it was testified at the preliminary hearing.
Kirkman, 32, is charged in connection with the murders of Candice Tracy Clayton, 37, and Daniel Goldston, 42.
Kirkman, a resident of Central Avenue in Cleveland, faces two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of aggravated robbery as well as drug charges.
Cleveland Police said Kirkman gave a detailed statement that also implicated two others. Those two have not been charged.
Kirkman said the trio were upset at Goldston and Clayton over some fraudulent checks and felt they "were being screwed over."
Kirkman said he and the other two went to the home of Goldston and Clayton on Weeks Drive on Monday to get their money back on the checks.
He said they argued at that time, then decided to return later.
Kirkman said a female suspect allegedly shot both victims twice with a .22 semi-automatic handgun.
He said Goldston ran to a bedroom and collapsed, then he (Kirkman) stabbed him with a large knife. Kirkman said he also beat both vitims in the head with a large club.
The third suspect - a male - stabbed Goldston several times while the female suspect struck Clayton a number of times, according to Kirkman's statement.
It was claimed that the female took several items from the house and Kirkman took some cash out of Goldston's pocket.
Police said Kirkman told a co-worker at a local industry that he "had took care of someone who had been bothering him."
Police said they found several items at Kirkman's residence and a nearby dumpster that were tied to the murder scene.
Det. Dailey said he had first gone to Kirkman's business and asked if he owned a pair of KSwiss sneakers. He said he went to Kirkman's residence, saying he wanted to get an impression of them. He said Kirkman acted as though he could not find the shoes, and he was pacing around inside. The detective said he spotted the shoes in a garbage bag. Other items that could be tied to the murder were in the bag, police said.
Authorities said Kirkman killed in father in Florida in 1987, but was acquitted after pleading temporary insanity.
