County Commission Chairman Bill Hullander says crime is down drastically in Hamilton County, and he believes the posting of the Ten Commandments may be a factor.
He said the Ten Commandments were posted at three county buildings in December, and he said the sheriff's office reports major crime down by 38 percent for January and February compared to the previous year.
Commissioner Hullander said, "I realize that some will say 'So what?' or otherwise try to explain away these statistics as having nothing to do with three plaques hanging on walls in our court buildings. But I hope that the public will conclude that our effort to encourage compliance with our laws has borne good fruit."
He stated, "When I introduced the resolution i September, I said then that it was my hope that by posting the document that many of us felt was the basis and summary of all the laws of our country many of our citizens would be reminded of the importance of obeying the law and treating one another with respect."
The County Commission has been sued by the ACLU and 13 citizens over the posting.
Judge Al Edgar is to try the case on April 29 in Federal Court.
