Three More Students Charged With Burning Flags

Arrests At Orchard Knob Middle School

Friday, September 20, 2002

The arrest of an eighth grade student on Sept. 13 for burning flags at Orchard Knob Middle School has led to today’s arrest of three more students at the same school, fire officials said.

The flags in the school’s auditorium were burned on Sept. 10.

After a brief investigation, Captain Randy Jacks with the Fire Investigation Division charged a 15-year-old female student at the school with setting fire to personal property, which is a Class E felony.

This morning, Capt. Jacks and Lieutenant James Whitmire charged three students – ages 13, 14 and 15 – with setting fire to personal property.

All of the students involved are female.

Capt. Jacks said three of the four girls confessed to setting the fire. The one who denied involvement, the 15-year-old, was implicated by the other three, and was transported to the Juvenile Detention Center.

This particular juvenile was already on probation for making a bomb threat at the school last year, officials said.

Capt. Jacks said additional charges might be in the offing for the students. Capt. Jacks said Thomas Watkins, the School Resource Officer at Orchard Knob Middle School, provided valuable assistance with the investigation.

Thank You, Judge Mattice And Chattanooga

I would like to thank Judge Mattice for handing down a 30.5 year sentence for Kathleen Mathews.  Obviously, no amount of jail time, fines, or lashings can bring back Tim Chapin.   A 30-year sentence will, however, make the world just a little safer.  That's what Sgt. Chapin would have wanted.  He was a protector and sacrificed his life so the rest of ... (click for more)

Ah, step into my parlor of first-hand wisdom because, in the School of Hard Knocks, there are priceless lessons that you should know before it becomes your turn to dance. There are two big nerves that sprout out of the ... (click for more)
