I want to applaud the students and supporters of Howard High for pushing for the renovation of their historic school building, and I would encourage the preservation of other aging school buildings, particularly the current Red Bank Middle School.
From shortly before World War II until the early 1980s, the latter building served as Red Bank High School, and many Chattanooga
leaders of today attended it. I believe it is the most significant landmark in Red Bank, yet it is scheduled to be replaced eventually.
I would encourage the alumni to push for its preservation, especially considering that the former Red Bank Elementary was recently razed.
As the Howard supporters pointed out, one should remember school buildings'
pasts when determining their futures.
