There are a lot of reminders around Eatonton, Ga., that Joel Chandler Harris - author of the famous Uncle Remus tales - was a native.

There's the Uncle Remus Museum in two original Putnam County slave log cabins. The buildings are similar to one Uncle Remus himself would have lived in. There are many photos and artifacts relating to the life of Chandler.

Outside is a Brer Rabbit figurine, and there is another one on the courthouse lawn at Eatonton.

There's even an Uncle Remus Golf Course.

There's a plantation still standing at the Chandler homeplace, but it is not open to the public.

Alice Walker, Pulitzer Prize winning author, was born and raised in Putnam County, and there is an Alice Walker driving tour.

Another attraction is the Rock Eagle Mound that may have been constructed 50 centuries ago. It is viewed from a tower of natural stone.

Another Indian mound is known as the LittleRock Eagle Effigy.

There are many historic homes at Eatonton. The spring tour of homes is the last Saturday in April.

For Eatonton information call 706 485-7701.

We Are Blessed To Have Ron Littlefield As Our Mayor - And Response (2)

Chattanooga is blessed beyond measure to have Ron Littlefield as our mayor.  It is a total travesty our city has had to endure the long frivolous battle with absolutely  no foundation other than disagreement with policy issues.  It has always been a vendetta directed personally at Mayor Littlefield which, if the "interveners" decide to appeal, will be a proven fact.   ...
