Horner Leads Locomotion To 22-15 Win

The Chattanooga Locomotion remained perfect at 8-0 defeating Asheville 22-15 on the road Saturday night. The win sealed Chattanooga's second seed in the National Women's Football Association playoffs which begin June 28.

In the game Saturday, Amanda Horner hit Shalimar Folds for a 54-yard touchdown in the first quarter to give the Locomotion a 6-0 lead. Asheville answered with a two-yard TD run and took a 7-6 lead after making the extra point.

The game remained locked at 7-6 for the rest of the half. The Locomotion took a 14-7 lead in the third quarter when Horner scored on a seven-yard run and converted the two-point conversion.

Asheville again took the lead - this time with just 3:42 left in the game on a 26-yard run by Charlie Cox. The two-point gamble paid off as they took a 15-14 lead.

Chattanooga then marched 46 yards on six plays, capped off with another Horner touchdown from 8 yards out for the game-winning score.

Horner finished the game with 99 yards rushing and 76 yards passing. Amanda Lebo had 46 yards on 6 carries. Folds finished with 77 yards on two catches.

The National Women's Football Association (NWFA) playoffs will begin on June 28 in the Southern Conference with the #6 Nashville Dream traveling to Oklahoma City to take on the Lightning and the #5 Assault traveling to Huntsville to take on the #4 Alabama Renegades (in all 4 South Division teams made the playoffs).

#1 seed Pensacola Power and #2 seed Locomotion have byes until July 12th's divisional round.

In the Northern Conference, the Detroit Demolition is the top seed, while the Philadelphia Phoenix is 2nd, the (Washington) D.C. Divas finished 3rd, Cleveland (OH) Fusion are 4th, Baltimore Burn will be 5th, and the (New Britain) Connecticut Crush wind up 6th.

The Conference Championship games will be on July 19 in the highest remaining seeds' stadium. The NWFA Championship Game will be held at White's Creek High School in Nashville on Aug. 2.


Lady Mocs Tennis Team Remains Undefeated

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's tennis team remained undefeated with a 5-2 win at Murray State today. The Lady Mocs move to 4-0 to start the season while the Racers fall to 1-2 overall. Chattanooga is yet to lose a doubles point this season, grabbing two of three matches today. MURFREESBORO. --- UTC senior Chris Berry (Murfreesboro) took first in the men’s 3000 meter run at the Valentine Invitational at the Murphy Center on the campus of Middle Tennessee. Mark Phillips Was Victim In Fatal Hixson Pike Wreck

Mark Phillips, 54, was the victim in a fatal Hixson Pike wreck on Saturday afternoon. Police said the driver of the Ford F150 that went out of control and struck the Phillips vehicle was 68-year-old Warren Elliott.
