Edwards Brings Presidential Campaign To Tennessee

Sunday, June 08, 2003

Nashville - Sen. John Edwards, candidate for the Democratic
nomination for President, will hold a reception in Nashville June 12 at
1 p.m.

The reception, to be held in the Freedom Conference Room, 223 8th
Ave., North, is open to the public.

"The Tennessee Democratic Party is here to elect Democrats and Tennessee
will play a critical role in selecting the next Democratic nominee for President," Randy Button, State Party chairman said, referring to Tennessee's February Primary.

Tennessee's Presidential Primary, which he said was moved to February 10, 2004, by a Democratic initiative in the State Legislature, will be one of earliest Presidential Primaries next year. Tennessee will be targeted as a breakout state by several of the Presidential contenders, especially by those candidates from Southern States, it was stated.

Button said Edwards, a North Carolina Democrat, made a name for himself in the U.S. Senate as an advocate for fiscal responsibility and patient protection legislation. As a candidate for President, Edwards supports a Patients' Bill of Rights and reducing the price of prescription drugs.

He said throughout his public and private career, "Edwards has focused on fighting for the middleclass and the underrepresented."

Former Tennessee 5th District Congressman Bob Clement has endorsed Edwards as a candidate for President.
