Giving Aid And Comfort To The Enemy

Saturday, July 19, 2003

Kevin Distasio asked "why are we not questioning Bush actions?" I ask why are we not questioning the actions of those like Kevin giving comfort to our enemies by defending Saddam Hussein.

Kevin is no doubt one of the "I do not support the war but support our troops" crowd. My younger brother is currently in the Area of Operations in Iraq. Trust me when I tell you he does not want the kind of support the Kevin Distasios in America are offering.

Kevin does support troops. They are just not American troops. They are Iraqi troops. Every time he calls for investigation of OUR government he brings a smile to Saddam's face and gets the adrenaline of the Baath Party loyalist pumping. This anti-American talk Kevin spews only strengthens the enemy. Ask any one who served in Vietnam.

Thousands of young men and women have volunteered to leave their families and good paying jobs to go serve our country. If Kevin would truly like to support our troops, might I offer a few suggestions? Find a military family and offer to cut their grass, buy some groceries, buy a restaurant gift certificate and donate money for a baby-sitter so a young mother might get a break, or maybe even something as simple as a car wash. You might offer to pay for an oil change or to clean out gutters. The best way to support our troops is to be sure their families back home are taken care of.

No one wants their brother home any more than I do. I pray for his safe return to his wife and two small sons. When I think that words from politicos like Kevin might entice an Iraqi to shoot one missile that could be aimed at my brother, I get furious.

My brother knows this group of "please bring our troops home now" are the same bunch that said "why didn't we stay a little while longer the first time and finish the job?" My brother realizes if the job is not finished now, his two sons will have to finish it later.

I have heard for years that some people put their politics before their country. I never believed it until now. I have seen some who want to see more of our boys shot to give them more "ammunition" to use against our President.

Kevin I question YOUR motivation. I think in all honesty the phrase "I do not support the war but I support my PARTY" is more like the truth.
Your party needs your support. Our troops do not need the support you offer.
