Police Blotter: Hardee's Holdup, Rap Harassment And A Midget Prostitute

Tuesday, October 19, 2004

A man put a gun to an employee's head while robbing the Hardee's on E. 23rd Street.

Police said a black male came in the front door and went behind the counter. He then produced the gun and demanded money.

He took cash that the manager was counting in the office.

A video showed that the man had a white towel around his left hand when he entered.

At an apartment on Woodlawn Drive, two black males used a tire iron to get inside a residence occupied by several Hispanics.

They took $280 from Asiel Morales and $160 from Jose Bernardino. Mr. Morales was hit in the head with the tire iron and was taken to the hospital.

One of the men was armed with a black handgun.

Marie Carringer said she and her husband returned to their apartment in the 800 block of Signal Mountain Road and found the rear door had been kicked in. Nothing was missing.

They left to go to a funeral, and when they came back the door was again kicked in. This time the intruder took their Dale Earnhardt and Dale Earnhardt Jr. memorabilia.

Jessica Coverdale on Alabama Avenue said someone kicked in her rear door and took her DVD/VCR, a 12-pack of Miller Lite and a 12-pack of Coke.

She said she had been burglarized before, and they took drinks at that time.

A resident in the 5100 block of Florida Avenue came home to find the rear door kicked in and the house ransacked. Nothing was missing, but damage to the door was $150.

Rhonda Simmons of Tomahawk Trail came home to find her apartment broken into. The back door was open.

She was missing her cell phone and 200 CDs.

Police Sgt. Larry Guthrie said he was out of his patrol car talking with another officer and they were preparing to set up radar.

When he returned to the vehicle, he found that his left rear door window had been busted out. Officers could not learn how it happened.

Keara Parks said she received two harassing phone calls from her former boyfriend.

They included rap lyrics he had written "depicting his anger after she was unfaithful to him."

Police went to S. Orchard Knob Avenue to check out a report that a midget prostitute was working the area.

No midget prostitute could be found.
