Deacon Roscoe Perry died on Saturday, Nov. 6, 2004.

Roscoe was born in Florence, SC, on March 2, 1934. He was the son of the late Joe and Sarah Perry and also was preceded in death by his sister, Josephine Charles.

Roscoe Perry attended Wilson High School in Florence, SC, was a graduate of Allen State University and accepted Christ as his lord and savior at an early age.

Deacon Perry transferred to Chattanooga as staff manager with the Atlanta Life Insurance Company. During that time, Deacon Perry united with First Baptist Church under the leadership of the Rev. H.H. Battle in 1962.

He joined in holy matrimony to Ms. JoAnn Bonds and during their union raised four children.

In 1959, he transferred to the Savannah, GA Branch of Atlanta Life Insurance Company as district manager where he remained a valued employee for 37 years.

During that time, Deacon Perry joined First African Baptist Church in Savannah, GA, under the leadership of the Rev. William Franklin Stokes and was ordained as deacon. He was a faithful servant of the deacon board, choir and male chorus and also served on the usher board. Even in failing health, Roscoe continued to remain a faithful member and servant of God, until he could no longer serve.

Deacon Perry is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Jo Ann Bonds Perry; three sons, Anthony (Adele) Pollard, Marietta, GA; the Rev. Roscoe F. (Ann) Perry, Augusta, GA, and Tech. Sgt. Gerald D. Perry, Sumter, SC; two daughters, Delores Ray-Hall, Charleston, SC and Deborah D. Pollard, Savannah, GA; seven grandchildren; one brother, Frizzell (Juliette ) Perry of Fayetteville, NC; several nieces and nephews; a close personal friend of the family, Freda Perry of Valdosta, GA; one godchild, Georgiana Parker, Savannah, GA, and a host of other family and friends.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, at First African Baptist Church in Savannah, GA, with the Rev. T.M. Tillman and others officiating.

Interment will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Chattanooga National Cemetery.
