The Cincinnati Reds announced the signing of former Chattanooga right-hander Scott MacRae to a minor league contract.
The popular ex-Lookout MacRae, 29, has been part of the Reds organization since being selected by Cincinnati in the 32nd round of the 1995 First-Year Played Draft. A native of Dearborn, Michigan, he is a graduate of Georgia's Valdosta State University.
He will report to Sarasota for Spring Training with minor league pitchers and catchers March 5.
Since turning pro, MacRae has compiled a 51-30 record with a 3.85 ERA in 296 minor league appearances.
He spent significant time with the Reds in 2001, posting a 0-1 record with a 4.02 ERA while appearing in 24 games and totaling 31 1/3 innings.
MacRae pitched for Chattanooga at Historic Engel Stadium during the 1998 and 1999 season. He pitched for the Lookouts at BellSouth Park 2000 and 2001. He hurled in a total of 162 games and finished with a record of 26-14.
He began the 2002 season at Triple-A Louisville, but had his season cut short because of elbow surgery Aug. 15, 2002.
While rehabbing the elbow in 2003, MacRae served as a pitching coach at Billings of the rookie Pioneeer League.
