John Edward Mayercik, 68, a native of Danbury, CT and a resident of Ocean Springs, MS, died Sunday, July 25, 2004 at his home.

Mr. Mayercik was a decorated war veteran, having served two tours in Vietnam. He retired in 1978 after 20 years of Army service. He received his Bachelors of Science in Education from Columbus College in 1973, a Master of Education from Middle Tennessee State University in 1979, and his Specialist in Education in 1981.

After his military service, Mr. Mayercik taught at Oakland High School in Murfreesboro, TN, where he was the Senior Army Instructor for the JROTC program. He retired from teaching in 1996, after 16 years of service. During his teaching career, he was instrumental in developing and establishing much of the curriculum and activities of the JROTC program.
