Arrest Made In Slaying Of Tara Swilley

  • Thursday, August 12, 2004

A former employee of Dalton carpet company owner Buddy Parker has been arrested in the slaying of his daughter, Tara Swilley.

Whitfield County Sheriff Scott Chitwood said at a Thursday afternoon press conference that murder charges were brought against 32-year-old Jeffrey Allen Hampton.

The sheriff said Hampton had worked for Buddy Parker and had also been one of his tenants at one time.

Mr. Parker had said he believed the shot that killed his daughter was intended for him.

Mr. Parker was out of town when the shot was fired into his bedroom, striking the daughter in the head. She was staying at her father's house with her husband and child.

The sniper-style shooting a week ago was from a distance of about 150 feet, police said.
