Nashville – Governor Bredesen today announced he has issued a Writ of Election to fill the vacancy in the Office of the State Senator for District 33. The vacancy was created upon the resignation of Sen. Roscoe Dixon (D) of Shelby County on Jan. 13.
The Writ of Election directs the Shelby County Election Commission to hold both a primary and general election to vote for a successor to fill the Office of State Senator for District 33. The primary election will be held on Thursday, March 24. The general election will be held on Tuesday, May 10.
The Writ of Election is issued in accordance with Article II, Section 15, of the Constitution of the State of Tennessee and Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 2-14-202.
