City Police Officer Fired After Disciplinary Hearing

A Chattanooga Police officer has been fired after a disciplinary hearing.

J. Ryke Merrill had been with the department for 10 years and was a third shift patrolman.

Officials said he had no prior disciplinary matters.

He had been under investigation since he had been seen touching himself behind the Food Lion in Lookout Valley, officials said.

They said he also had downloaded pornography on his city computer.

No criminal charges have been filed against him at this time.
