TDOT Region 2 Weekly Construction Report

TDOT will suspend construction on all major roadways in the state beginning at noon Wednesday, Nov. 23, to ease traffic flow for those traveling on Tennessee¡¦s roads during the Thanksgiving holiday period.

Construction work will be halted on all roads that have an average daily traffic count of 30,000 vehicles or more which includes interstates and some state routes. Construction will not resume until Monday, Nov. 28, after the morning rush hour period.

Bledsoe County
„h SR-28 from SR-30 to Cumberland County Line Resurfacing The contractor will implement temporary lane closures on weekdays from 6:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. CST. Estimated completion date is November 2005. (Highways, Inc./DB)


Bradley County
„h SR-2 (Keith Street) at SR-60 (25th Street) Intersection Improvement in Cleveland The contractor continues work at this busy intersection. As a part of this intersection improvement project, the contractor will be working in the area relocating utilities, excavating for widening the roadway, median islands, curb and gutter. Most of this work will be done in the day using short term lane closures during non-peak hours between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. While every effort is being made to minimize inconvenience to the motoring public, some congestion can be expected, and motorists may want to seek an alternate route. Motorists should use caution and be alert to changing traffic conditions. Estimated completion date is May 2006. (Simpson Construction, Inc./GF)
Coffee/Moore County
„h SR-16 Widening Project from West of the Coffee / Moore County line to west of North Washington Street in Tullahoma Contractor has implemented Phase 3 of this project. Detours to phase construction are in place to route traffic around construction activities on the project. Congestion and potential delays can be expected during peak times and motorists should be alert to changes in traffic conditions. Estimated completion date is December 2006.(Rogers Group/JM)
Cumberland County
„h ****I-40 Replacement of Overhead Bridge at Battown Road/Market Street (mm 329) Work is well underway on this project with the construction of a portion of the new bridge over I-40. Lane closures will occur on November 28 and 30 beginning at 7:00 p.m. each evening and ending at or before 6:00 a.m. CST the following morning. Motorists are asked to be patient and to stay alert for changing traffic conditions. Estimated completion date is May 2006. (Highways, Inc./DB2)
„h ****I-40 Replacement of Overhead Bridge at Plateau Road (mm 311) Both structures on Plateau Road over I-40 are closed for reconstruction. The closure of these structures is necessary to maintain safety for the traveling public. Lane closures on I-40 eastbound and westbound are expected on November 28 and 30 beginning at 7:00 p.m. and ending by 6:00 a.m. CST the following morning. Where possible, traffic may be rerouted across the interchange ramps to minimize inconvenience. The contractor is currently working on grading the bridge approaches and the I-40 ramps. „h ****I-24 Bridge Construction ¡V Bridges over Patton Creek and Elk River (mm 128 to mm 129) There are no lane closures scheduled at this time. Motorists should use caution and be alert to changing traffic conditions. Estimated completion date is July, 2007 (Dement Construction/DB)

„h I-75 Enterprise South Interchange (mm 9 to mm 11) There are no lane closures scheduled at this time. Motorists should use caution and be alert to changing traffic conditions. Estimated completion date is December 2006. (Blalock Construction Company/EH)
„h I-75 Widening Project (mm 5 to mm 9) The contractor has completed this project with the exception of addressing the punch list items. There will be no lane closures during this period. Estimated completion of the entire project is November 2005. (Dement Construction/EH)
„h US-127 (SR-8, Signal Mountain Blvd.) from US-27 (SR-29) to SR-27 (Suck Creek Road) The contractor has implemented Phase 2 of this project and is now working in several key areas. Some northbound and southbound lane closures may be required for this work, but should be very short in duration. These closures, should they be necessary, will be performed during non-peak traffic periods. Motorists who must travel through this area are asked to be patient and stay alert for changing traffic conditions. Estimated completion date is December 2005. „h Installation of a Closed Circuit Camera System on various Interstate and State Routes in Chattanooga The contractor will be working throughout the Chattanooga area on various Interstate and State Routes installing a closed circuit television system for the monitoring of traffic. There are no lane closures scheduled for this period. Estimated completion date is August 2006 (Mastec North America, Inc./EH)
„h ****SR-317 (Apison Pike) at East Brainerd Road/Bates Road Intersection Improvement All work on this project is complete pending final inspection. Motorists should use caution and be alert to changing traffic conditions. Estimated completion date is November 2005. (Highways, Inc./CG)
„h SR-8 (Market Street) Bridge Renovation and Rehabilitation over the Tennessee River & Riverfront Parkway. The bridge on this project has been closed to traffic to undergo major repairs. Detours are posted and traffic is encouraged to use either the Olgiati Bridge (SR 29/US 27) or the Veterans Bridge (Georgia Avenue/Barton Avenue) as alternate routes. Some traffic delays can be expected, but should be short in duration. Estimated completion date is September 2007. (Mountain States Contractors, LLC/CG)

„h ****I-24 Excavation for Sign Footings (mm156 to mm 158) The contractor will implement a temporary lane closure for the excavation for sign footings on November 28 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. CST. Traffic will remain in one lane on US-70N (SR-24) throughout this project. Currently, there are no interstate lane closures scheduled for this period. „h ****SR-378 Resurfacing from SR-29 (L.M. 0.00) to SR-29 (L.M. 1.76) in the City of Dayton The contractor has begun paving on this project. Rhea/Meigs County
„h SR-68 Bridge Rehabilitation Project over Tennessee River on Watts Bar (L.M. 15.25) The bridge over the Tennessee River at the Watts Bar Dam in Rhea and Meigs Counties is now open to traffic. All work on this project is complete except for work on final punch list items. Some of this work will require the temporary closure of traffic lanes during the day. These lane closures, when possible, will be done during non-peak hours and traffic will be controlled using flaggers. Some short traffic delays are to be expected. Motorists who must travel through this area are asked to be patient and to stay alert for changing traffic conditions. Estimated completion date is November 2005. (Mid-State Construction Co./DB2)

„h ****SR-8 Resurfacing from Firetower Road to SR-28 Daily lane closures will be required each day for milling and paving. All work will be performed between the hours of 6:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. CST. Flagging operations will be used to move traffic through the work zone. Motorists should be alert for changing traffic conditions and possible delays. Estimated completion date is November 2005.
