No Injuries Reported In Retirement Center Fire

Thursday, December 15, 2005

Thursday morning a fire broke out at a retirement center, Naphe Towers, located on North Hickory Valley Road. An employee from Naphe Towers made the 91-1 call reporting a fire in an apartment.

Highway 58 Volunteer Fire Department (VFD) responded and arrived on the scene within minutes reporting fire in a first floor apartment. The firefighters were able to contain the fire to the one apartment and extinguish the fire within nine minutes.

Due to the smoke to the upper floor apartments, firefighters, HCEMS and Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department personnel, assisted with evacuating residents to the dining room and lounge areas.

No injuries were reported. Two residents were transported by Hamilton County EMS to local hospitals for medical conditions. Damages were contained to the one apartment and estimated at $25,000.

The cause of the fire is undetermined and will be under investigation by the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office.

Highway 58 VFD was assisted by Tri-Community VFD and Chattanooga-Hamilton County Rescue for Mutual Aid.

Chapin would have wanted.  He was a protector and sacrificed his life so the rest of ... (click for more)
