Downtown Happenings Through Dec. 26

Enjoy Winter Days and Lights with the following downtown events happening through Monday, Dec. 26.

As a thank you to the community, the Creative Discovery Museum will open its doors free of charge on Wednesday, Dec. 21, and Thursday, Dec. 22. Individuals, church groups, charitable organizations or civic groups are welcome to take advantage of this opportunity. While you’re there, check out their winter exhibit Cool Wonders, featuring a film festival, gingerbread house workshops, art & science demos, and more. The museum will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days. For more information, please call 756-2738.



On Wednesday, Dec. 21, Jeremy Sample will appear at the Museum Café, located inside the Hunter Museum. The Museum Café is a part of Bluff View Art District and offers wine, house-roasted coffees, pastries, desserts and even salads and wraps. The free concert begins at 7 p.m. For more information call 265-5033.

“The Holiday Concert” by Jim Brickman will be held at the Tivoli Theater on Thursday, Dec. 22, beginning at 7:30 p.m. Best known for his solo piano artistry and popular romantic hits, Brickman’s original compositions and celebrated adaptations of traditional favorites capture the feeling of the holidays. Back Inn Café in the Bluff View Art District will be offering a special three-course dinner and wine tasting throughout the evening on Christams Eve. Then on Christmas Day, Renaissance Commons will host a gourmet Champagne Brunch from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Reservations are required, so please call 265-5033, extension 4.

The Creative Discovery Musuem will host the second annual “Breakfast Club” beginning on Monday, Dec. 26. For two weeks, the museum will be accepting donations of children’s breakfast items. All donations will be given to the Chattanooga Area Food Bank. Each child that brings and item will receive free admission to the museum. Please call 756-2738 for more information.

The River Gallery continues its exhibit Transformation through the end of December. Transforming the everyday into art is the success of this month’s artists. Margaret Dyer uses oil and pastels to capture daily life, blending them into colorful references. Brad Sells carves, turns and polishes wood to reveal hidden forms and colors. Prosecutors Asking Maximum Sentence For "Evil" Mother Of Jesse Mathews

Prosecutors are asking that the mother of the man charged with killing Chattanooga Police Sgt. Tim Chapin be given the maximum possible sentence, calling Kathleen Mathews an evil manipulator who encouraged Jesse Mathews' criminal endeavors. Mark Phillips Was Victim In Fatal Hixson Pike Wreck

Mark Phillips, 54, was the victim in a fatal Hixson Pike wreck on Saturday afternoon. Police said the driver of the Ford F150 that went out of control and struck the Phillips vehicle was 68-year-old Warren Elliott.
