Joseph Milton Talmadge, 99, a longtime resident of Knoxville, died on Tuesday, Dec. 20, 2005, at his home in St. Barnabas Apartments in Chattanooga.
Mr. Talmadge was employed by TVA from the early days of that agency until his retirement. At the time of his death, he was the oldest living retiree of the Tennessee Valley Authority.
Mr. Talmadge was a faithful communicant of St. James Episcopal Church in Knoxville until illness prevented his attending.
Mr. Talmadge was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph T. and Sadie Mash Talmadge; two sisters, Blanche T. Bouldin and Eugenia T. Beaird; two brothers, Horace H. Talmadge and Paul M. Talmadge Sr.; and one nephew, William T. Beaird.
He is survived by two nieces, Sadie (Ray) Beaird Hanna, of Chattanooga, Armanda (David) Talmadge Haigler, of Birmingham, AL; three nephews, Joseph D. (Phyllis) Talmadge Sr., of Enterprise, AL, Robert L. (Jennifer) Beaird Jr., and Paul M. (Betty Ann) Talmadge Jr., of Atlanta ; and numerous great and grandnieces and grandnephews.
The funeral service will be from St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Greeneville, Tenn., at 2 p.m. Tuesday, with the Rev. Fred Lindstrom officiating. Burial will follow in the family plot at Magnolia Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be nephews and great-nephews of Mr. Talmadge.
Visitation will be from noon until funeral time at St. Thomas Episcopal Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions are made to St. Barnabas Senior Living Services, 300 W. 6th St., Chattanooga, TN 37402, or to a favorite charity.
