Oglesby, Victor Alton "Al"

Victor Alton "Al" Oglesby, 82, died in a local hospital on Friday.

A 40-year resident of East Ridge, Mr. Oglesby was an active member of the "Whosoever Will" Sunday School class at South Seminole Baptist Church, where he was a long-time member and deacon.

Retired from both B. F. Goodrich and Coker Tire Company, he was a WWII veteran, having served with the 873rd Army Engineers Battalion in the South Pacific.

Born in the Jones Mill Community, Meriwether County, GA in 1923, Al grew up on farms in and around Molena, GA.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Charlie Alton and Mary Ellen Kelley Oglesby; brothers David Foster, James Harold, and Johnny Charles Oglesby, and son, David Alton Oglesby.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mary Sue Cochran Oglesby; daughter, Donna Marie (Richard) Huskey; sons, Victor Timothy (Rhonda) and Mark Evan (Arden) Oglesby; two grandsons, Richard Michael and Robert Steven Huskey; four granddaughters, Stacy O. Gray, Meghan O. Merciers, Amanda O. Miller, and Corinne Oglesby; three great grandsons, Cade Huskey, Connor Miller and Rigby Gray; sisters, Agnes Pressley, Emma Sue Fincher, and Bernice Weaver, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday at the East Chapel with the Rev. Ron Perry, Reed White and Harold Coker officiating.

Interment will be in U.S. National Cemetery at 10 a.m. on Monday.

The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. on Saturday at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, 404 South Moore Road.

The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to a charity of your choice.

Jessie F. Mark Phillips Was Victim In Fatal Hixson Pike Wreck

Mark Phillips, 54, was the victim in a fatal Hixson Pike wreck on Saturday afternoon. Police said the driver of the Ford F150 that went out of control and struck the Phillips vehicle was 68-year-old Warren Elliott.
