The Greatness Of The Democratic Party

Monday, March 07, 2005

Here are some things that Democrats need to remember. The Democratic Party may be down but we certainly are not out, and we need to remember what is going on now that needs to be changed or corrected.

1. Remember that several polls show that the morals of Republicans and conservatives are no better, and are worse in some cases, than Democrats and the so-called evangelicals and the "religious right" don't have a monopoly on Christian values or behavior.

2. Remember to render powerless such dissenters as Senators Lieberman and Feinstein and any who feel cooperation with repugs is more important than the Democratic Party and its principles.

3. Remember that Bush and his gang took advantage of a national tragedy of their own making to seize more power.

4. Remember that they used this tragedy to intimidate all opposition and create fear.

5. Remember not to go along with the GOP but to counteract their policies with balanced goals and with truth and light.

6. Remember to fight mightily against unneeded Social Security tampering.

7. Remember to fight to get us out of Iraq as soon as possible or at least insist on a time-table, knowing that we cannot rid the world of terrorism in Iraq.

8. Remember not to support judicial nominees who are inept and support racism, or that are outside the mainstream of American thinking.

9. Remember to insist that health care be provided for more people, and especially the poor. This should be a major priority.

10. Remember to insist that the Federal Budget be reduced without cutting social programs.

11. Remember to demand protection of the environment and the creation of more energy sources to bring about self-reliance.

12. Remember that while conservatives think the American creed is conservatism, they don't know what a creed is. A creed is a religious belief and a confession of faith. While many Conservative Americans act like conservatism is their God (Pat Robertson, Jerry Falwell, Dr. Dobson and Dr. Kennedy are a few), they don't always practice the true creed, set forth by the Apostles long ago.

13. Remember that Bush's new budget cuts social programs by $238 billion dollars over the next five years. "When ye have done it unto the least of these, ye have done it unto Me."

14. Remember the past history of the Democratic Party: Social Security, the GI Bill of Rights, Medicare, TVA, Art and Theater Projects, Rural Electrification, Housing and Urban Development, minimum wage and labor legislation, WPA., and many more programs of this kind that brought the country into the modern age and through its foreign policies brought stability to many European Countries through Lend-Lease and other programs.

15. Remember how the Democratic Party, under its greatest President, won World War II. It is the greatness of the Democratic Party and all the Party has done for people that Conservatives hate and are trying to rescind. Remember that and let's don't allow it. Remember that over 31 million people in this country are living below the poverty level. They need help. And ask yourself if you would like to work for the Minimum Wage.

Keep Commissioner McClure

As a resident of Hamilton County, I am very proud of our community. This is the first time I have felt compelled to voice my opinion on the District 3 Commission election. In his time as commissioner he has only added ... (click for more)

Play The Emission Game - And Response

I signed the petition but have a suggestion that may make a bigger impact.  Since it is a cash only business, pay with change and request they count it to keep you both honest. This gives a taste of your frustration and could imply that we as citizens want change also.  This could be very effective when they are busy. There are many ways to send a message but the ...
