Chattanooga Parks & Recreation has announced the locations for their summer camps:

Kidz Recreation Kamp
For ages 6 – 12
9-week Summer Program, May 31 – July 29
14 Kidz Kamp locations available throughout the city this summer.
Cost is $125 for 9-weeks. Lunch and snacks included.
Cost does not include field trips.
Camp is on Mondays – Fridays from 8 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. each day.

At Champions Club Tennis Complex at Rivermont Park
Three-day camps
For ages six and up (Children will be grouped according to skill levels)
Cost is $100 for 3-days.
Held each day from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Summer Whitewater Kayaking Camps
By Outdoor Chattanooga/OutVenture
Campsite is based at the Greenway Farm in Hixson
Beginner and Intermediate Kayaking Camps in June & July
Participants will enjoy five full days of kayaking.
Camps will involve two to four overnight stays.
Kayaking Equipment, Camping Gear, and most food provided.

For children with special needs and their siblings.
Campsite is based at the Chattanooga Zoo
”Extremely Me” for ages 13–18 on May 31 – June 3; 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. each day
”Extremely Me II” for ages 11–15 on July 5–8; 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. each day
”ZooAbility” for ages 6–10 on June 20–25; 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. each day
Cost is $60 per child.
Campers will enjoy feeding the animals, crafts, games, field trips, swimming, music, dance basketball, football, and field games.

Session II “Wild & Crazy” June 13–17 for ages 6, 7, and 8
Session III “Action & Adventure” June 20–24 for ages 9,10, and11
Session IV “Land and Sea” June 27 – July 1 for ages 6, 7, and 8
Session V “Me, Me, Me” July 11–15 for ages 9, 10, 11
Session VI “Reel-Expressions” July 18–22 for ages 12 and 13
Exciting art activities will include drawing, painting, found art sculpture, collage,
book-making, and film making.

Arbor Day Celebrations Scheduled For March 2-3

Lookout Valley, Tn. recorded the first tornado on what would become a historic 2-day tornado outbreak, at 7:55am on April 27, 2011. An EF 2 tornado with winds up to 135mph, damaged buildings, uprooted hundreds of trees and left one dead. Lookout Valley continues to rebuild from that day. Mother Of Man Charged With Killing Sgt. Chapin Given Prison Sentence Of 30 Years, 6 Months

The mother of the man charged with killing Chattanooga Police Sgt. Tim Chapin was sentenced Monday to serve 30 years and six months in federal prison.  Judge Sandy Mattice said the sentence for Kathleen Mathews, 57-year-old mother of Jesse Mathews, as a packed courtroom watched.  Ray Mathews, 51-year-old father of Jesse Mathews, must serve 20 years and 10 months. ... I would like to thank Judge Mattice for handing down a 30.5 year sentence for Kathleen Mathews.  Obviously, no amount of jail time, fines, or lashings can bring back Tim Chapin.   A 30-year sentence will, however, make the world just a little safer.  That's what Sgt.
