A 17-year-old Chattanooga boy is in critical condition after falling three floors at the abandoned Parkway Tower building next to Finley Stadium.
He is Asher Mendonsa of St. Elmo, son of Andy Mendonsa, who operates the local Widow's Harvest Ministry.
The Chattanooga Police Department's Major Crimes Division is investigating the incident that occurred Monday night.
Chattanooga Police responded around 8:30 p.m. to 1823 Carter St. on a person who had fallen several stories.
The victim, along with two other friends, had entered the building and climbed the stairs to the upper floors. Police were informed that the victim was taking photographs of the view outside the building when he stepped backward onto a wooden framework covered in plastic or fiberglass. The framework was laid over a hole in the concrete floor.
The plastic or fiberglass broke under the weight of the victim and he fell through the floor approximately three stories down.
The victim was transported to Erlanger Hospital by Hamilton County Ambulance where he is listed in critical condition.
The case is still under investigation.
The Parkway Towner, owned by Gary Fillers, has long stood vacant. The city at one time tried to acquire it in a condemnation action, but lost the case.
