Sen. Ward Crutchfield has resigned as attorney for the Hamilton County School Board.
He did so in a letter to School Board Chairman Chip Baker.
Sen. Crutchfield, 76, said he had been contemplating for some time leaving the position he has held for a number of years.
He was paid $53,000 per year by the county schools.
The County School Board had been set to discuss the issue at its meeting on June 23 in light of the recent indictment of Sen. Crutchfield on bribery charges.
Sen. Crutchfield has maintained his innocence and said he will fight the charges vigorously.
