Meigs County Researchers To Be On “History Detectives”

Monday, July 11, 2005

The popular PBS series "History Detectives" will feature genealogy experts from Meigs County, Tenn., in an episode titled "Cherokee Bible" to air at 9 p.m. on Monday, July 25, on WTCI-TV 45/DT 29, the community's public television station.

"Cherokee Bible" will investigate a mysterious Cherokee-language Bible owned by Austin, Texas-native Catherine Bullock inherited from her father. Having grown up to speak only English, she is intrigued by the Bible and wants to learn more about her own family's history, including whether the Bible traveled on the infamous "Trail of Tears" from Tennessee to Oklahoma.

"History Detectives" hosts and a production crew from New York visited Decatur, Tenn., in April to shoot footage for the episode.

"We're proud to share this program of local interest to our viewers," said Kelly Williams, vice president of programming for WTCI. "The Tennessee Valley is rich in history. This series provides an outlet for us to share the stories of our area with others across the country."

Now in its third season, "History Detectives" won the 2004 Parents' Choice Silver Honor Award for educational and programming quality. The series uses state-of-the-art technology and other forms of research to help trace artifacts to past generations.

WTCI TV45/DT29's mission is to provide excellent programming to educate, inform, and entertain.

Thank You, Judge Mattice And Chattanooga

I would like to thank Judge Mattice for handing down a 30.5 year sentence for Kathleen Mathews.  Obviously, no amount of jail time, fines, or lashings can bring back Tim Chapin.   A 30-year sentence will, however, make the world just a little safer.  That's what Sgt. Chapin would have wanted.  He was a protector and sacrificed his life so the rest of ... (click for more)
