Air America Would Be Breath Of Fresh Air - And Reply

Saturday, July 23, 2005

Thanks to Fred Hardwell's recent letter to the Chattanoogan.com I now have a name to go with the xenophobic, ill-informed and generally paranoid attitude so common in today's public discussion. I
didn't even suspect WDOD still held on to its "nostalgia" format until this all came to light.

After 15 years of Rush, G. Gordon Liddy and all the others, a dose of Air America would be a refreshing change on the crusty AM dial. "Liberal" radio does not equal filth and indecency. It is a
valid response to those pushing for a particular ideology that many people (yes, many people, Mr. Hardwell) do not agree with.

By the way, Mr. Hardwell, Howard Stern does not fall under the penumbra of "liberal" radio. His show is hardly a paragon of progressive thinking. Unfortunately, Mr. Hardwell's, letter is hardly progressive either. It saddens me to see that someone is so threatened by an opposing viewpoint that he feels the need to spew forth such an ill-informed rant.

I hope the looming danger of such close-minded thought is discussed this Sunday in churches, at offices on Monday, and anywhere else reasonable people gather.

Make up your mind after choosing from the entire smorgasbord of ideas, you don't always have to take the red herring being served. I welcome Air America.

Thank you for your support of WDOD and Air America. I also welcome them to Chattanooga and WDOD. If WDOD wants to kill their radio audience and the future of the station then they have the right to do so.

Radio is a matter of business and marketing and not so much about ideology. WDOD thinks they will gain in market share by putting on Air America and they are free to try. But if other markets are any real indicators it will be a failure. No body really likes or listens to liberal news talk shows. Sorry, but it is boring and the shrillness is like fingernails across chalkboards.

And thank you for your use of the word xenophobic to describe those who do not like liberal hate speech against Bush. Ooops, I am sorry, liberal talk shows. It is right on. Webster's defines xenophobic as "one unduly fearful of what is foreign and especially of people of foreign origin." That is exactly was liberal talks shows and their message are, foreign, to most of the thinking of the majority of Americans.

Welcome Air America and a fond farewell to WDOD.

A Good School Takes Involvement

As I have read the articles concerning Normal Park School I can’t keep from thinking when our children started to school in the 1960‘s. The two elementary schools in the city that were considered tops were Barger and Woodmore. We did not live in the zone for either school so we looked for a house to buy that was zoned for Woodmore.   We found ... (click for more)

Vince Dean Picks Up For Senate Race; Tommie Brown Headed For Contest With JoAnne Favors

That sets up a clash with Rep. JoAnne Favors, who picked up for District 28 earlier. Under Republican redistricting, Rep. Favors wound up in the Brown district. Rep. Dean, a Republican from East ... Notre Dame is moving on.   The Irish advanced Monday night when steady Steadman Ford drove a stake in the Chargers’ heart, draining a game-winning 3-pointer with 1.8 seconds left as No. 4 seed Notre Dame defeated fifth-seed Chattanooga Christian, 41-38, in District 7-AA tournament action in Phifer Gymnasium.   It was a thriller.   Notre Dame (10-14) ...
