A man said he was beaten on Brainerd Road after two other men said he was in their territory.

Kevin Toney said he was walking near 3410 Brainerd Road when he was approached by two black males.

He said both asked him why he was "in their area." He said he was just going to the store.

He said he tried to walk away, but both parties knocked him down and started punching and kicking him around his head and chest.

He suffered three lacerations to the head and was taken to Erlanger Medical Center by ambulance.

A man who three times called another man "Pussy" was bashed in the face in an incident on Crescent Club Drive.

Police said Kevin Morrissey was with several others a residence when Lance Sexton and others came in. Morrissey greeted Sexton with "Hey, Pussy." Sexton responded, "What did you say?" Morrissey repeated his greeting, and Sexton told him not to call him that again. Morrissey extended his hand to Sexton, then called him by the name a third time.

Witnesses said Sexton laughed and said, "I'm drunk. I ain't gonna think nothin' about it." He grinned at everyone, then drew back and "forcefully struck Morrissey's face with his fist."

Witnesses said Sexton tried to apologize, then left.

Morrissey suffered a laceration to his left check, just below the eye, that required nine stitches to close.

A warrant was taken out against Sexton for assault.

Police arrested Christopher Yett after chasing him down in East Chattanooga.

Lashaunda Knight of N. Chamberlain Avenue called saying she was having problems with Yett, her former boyfriend. She said he had shoved her down, choked her and beat her in the face. She left, went to a pay phone, and called 911.

Officers spotted Yett on a side porch when they arrived. He ran toward the back of the house and onto Camden Street. Police chased him on foot between Wheeler Avenue and Arlington Avenue. He was taken into custody at 1512 Arlington where he was hiding behind a green car.

Police found a broken gold necklace in his left front shorts pocket. Ms. Knight said she had been wearing it and he must have snatched it from her.

Yett was charged with domestic assault and theft under $500. Police said he had seven active warrants against him, including probation violations and failure to appear in court.

Donald Swoopes of Wheeler Avenue said someone broke the glass on a vent window of his 1984 Jaguar and took two speakers.

His neighbor, Mary Lindsey, spotted the thief in the car trying to get out a third speaker. When he yelled at her, the man jumped up, got onto a bicycle and rode away.

A black male came into the Golden Gallon on Ashland Terrace, grabbed a case and an 18-pack of Bud Lite beer, then ran out of the store. The beer thief was last seen running down Thrushwood Drive.
