Former City Councilman John Lively is eyeing a seat on the County Commission.

Mr. Lively on Wednesday picked up qualifying papers for the District 6 seat held by Lou Miller.

Mr. Lively would run as a Republican. Mrs. Miller is expected to face former county Democratic Party Chairman John Brooks in the Democratic primary.

Mr. Lively, who lives in Lookout Valley, lost his city seat to Linda Bennett.

Also, Earl Ray Rader picked up for the District 3 County Commission seat.

Betty Faye Williamson got qualifying papers for Third District Congress.

Red Bank Mayor Pat Brown picked up qualifying papers to run for House District 27.

A reception is being held at the Mountain City Club on Thursday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. for Criminal Court Judge candidate Barry Steelman.

Officials said, "The reception is being hosted by several local attorneys for their fellow colleagues from the bench and bar to allow them the opportunity to come meet with the candidate and their colleagues who support Mr. Steelman. The host committee welcomes members of the local bar and those professionals primarily dealing with the Hamilton County Court system."
