95.3 JACK-FM signed on to the airwaves Friday morning, introducing
a new kind of radio format to Southeast Tennessee.
Officials said the new format does not include on-air personalities at the present time.
“We are excited to introduce a totally different radio station to the market,” said Charles Sells,
managing partner of the Brewer Broadcasting of Cleveland group.
He said, "The radio market and
advertiser needs continue to evolve and we’re evolving with those needs. 95.3 JACK-FM is a music-driven, innovative and energetic format designed for an adult audience and built around the promises of variety, low repetition, and less clutter.
"95.3 JACK-FM merges thousands of hit songs from the 70s, 80s, 90s and today with a bit of attitude into a fun format that blends different styles of music in unexpected ways. JACK-FM’s playlist will be four times larger than the average radio station.
"This innovative format was first
introduced in Canada in 2002 and since then has taken off in U.S. markets, including Los Angeles, Dallas, Denver, Indianapolis, Kansas City and Nashville.
“JACK-FM is a response to the ‘I want it all’ world in which people can enjoy Bruce Springsteen, Marvin Gaye, Lenny Kravitz, No Doubt and the Rolling Stones all on the same station. Hey, we love all that music so we decided we’re just going to play it all.”
Brewer Broadcasting is one of the few viable family owned companies remaining in the broadcast industry, he said.
The company is based in Chattanooga and owns and operates eight stations in the area broadcasting six distinctive radio formats. They include Power 94 – WJTT FM, Groove 93 – WMPZ FM, 95.3 JACK FM – WHJK*, Cat Country 93.9 – WAYA FM, Alive 105 – WALV FM* and the WBAC Radio
Network consisting of WBAC AM 1340 in Cleveland, WDNT AM 1280 in Dayton and WXQK AM 970 in Spring City.
The combined coverage of these stations extends from Northwest Georgia nearly to west Knoxville along the Tennessee River Valley corridor.

in 3 adults 18 to 54 in a five-county area of southeast Tennessee including Hamilton, Bradley, McMinn, Meigs and Rhea counties, he said.
Call letter changes are 95.3 WALV FM to 95.3 WHJK FM and 104.9 WDNT FM to 104.9 WALV FM, pending approval of the Federal Communications Commission.
