Bradley County Sheriff's deputies were called to Peachtree Circle after a 9-1-1 call of a shooting. It happened just before 1 a.m. Monday, leaving Lee D. Jackson II with an injury to his right hip. An investigation revealed the .44-caliber pistol fired while it was being cleaned, and the shooting was ruled accidental. Meanwhile, Mr. Jackson was treated at the hospital for his injury.
Over the weekend Bradley County deputies found the door to a local business damaged, but were unable to reach the owner because contact information that was provided was inaccurate. Deputies said that business owners and managers should make sure the contact information posted at the main entrance, on an exterior wall, or at the 9-1-1 center is up-to-date.
Last week thieves took a piece of copper grounding bar from a cellular tower site. The copper is used in the tower's grounding for lightning protection.
Over the weekend Tennessee Department of Transportation personnel reported a roll of six-gauge copper wire weighing approximately 500 pounds and a roll of four-gauge wire weighing 40 pounds were stolen from a storage building at exit 33 on I-75.
Similar thefts have taken place at remote cellular and broadcast tower sites across the country, and have now spread to Bradley County. Sites are generally fenced to prevent unauthorized entry. Investigators found two holes in fencing at the TDOT site.
Over the weekend a Bradley County man discovered an extensive history of unauthorized use of his name and social security number for credit and services in Syracuse, N.Y. He found multiple credit cards, lease agreements, and power company service had been obtained in his name dating back to December, 1998. He has contacted New York authorities in an attempt to identify the culprit.
Some electronic equipment was taken out of a residence on Mouse Creek Road. The owner found a bedroom window broken, and a camcorder, TV, an assortment of DVDs and other stereo equipment had been taken.
Deputies investigated a theft on South Lee Highway where $300 was taken while the owner was at work.
