It is family first for Baylor head soccer coach Jimmy Weekley. He missed his Red Raiders' state soccer opener on Wednesday to be with his wife, who had their fourth child earlier in the afternoon. Playing without their head coach didn't seem to affect the Red Raiders as they cruised to a 4-0 win over ECS.

Much of that is due to the fact that the coaching duties fell into the capable hands of assistant coach Curtis Blair. Blair is in his first year as an assistant at Baylor after several head coaching positions.

A Kemesha Woodfine goal in the first five minutes of the game helped settle both Blair and the Red Raiders' fears of ending their season at the hands of the ECS Eagles.

Twenty minutes into the game, seniors Brittany Brown and Fritsl Butler combined for a goal to give Baylor a 2-0 lead.

Blair talked about getting that first goal.

"Anytime you can score that early goal, the girls usually settle in," he said. "We came out really strong and set the tone for the rest of the match."

Jennifer Clemmer scored two more goals, one in the 43rd minute and the last in the 56th minute assisted by Caroline Scales. Scales, who transferred from GPS this year, was playing in her first game after receiving her eligibility this week.

Baylor will play BGA Thursday night in the state semifinals.

BGA is one of only a couple of Division II teams Baylor has not played.

"It seems like we have played just about everyone," Blair said. "But we did not play ECS this year and we have not played BGA."

Blair was relieved to get the win after spending much of the week, anticipating the possibility of filling in this week.

"Jimmy told me this week that she may have the baby and I may have to coach," he said. "I was nervous mainly for the seniors and the Baylor community. The seniors have gone through a lot to get here so I really wanted it for them."

Teal Nabors recorded the shutout in the goal for Baylor. Nabors was starting in just her third game after taking over for Taylor Davidson, who broke her collarbone three weeks ago. She had one save on two shots by ECS. Baylor had 19 shots on goal.

The most important stat of the night was not made available to the press... weight, length and time of birth, but we do know it was a boy, which makes four for the Weekleys.

In other Division II games, St. Agnes defeated Harpeth Hall 3-0 with goals by Anna Robilio, Caroline Capacoccia and Megan Kinsella.

BGA advanced with a 3-0 win over Hutchison. Susannah Dennis scored all three goals for BGA.
