The Tennessee Temple Crusader football team earned their 11th win of the season and their first playoff victory in school history Friday night at Finley Stadium with an impressive 51-14 romp over Monterey.

Joey Skogen and Kameron Ridley had two touchdown runs and Erik Larson threw for three. Two of those went to Seth Skogen and one to Dee Newsome. Josh Smith also had a touchdown.

Temple struggled for extra points missing on five of six attempts. Larson also had a pass to Newsome for a two-point conversion.

The Crusaders led 18-14 at the half but defensive adjustments at half-time shutout the visitors for the remainder of the game.

"We moved from a four of five man front to a six man front," Temple head coach Steve Beard said. "We just had the wrong skeme in the first half."

Temple opened the second half with a 75 yard touchdown pass from Erik Larson to Seth Skogen. The Crusaders went on to score three more times in the third quarter.

"We felt like we missed an opportunity to score at the end of the first half," Beard said. "So getting that touchdown to open the second half was big."

Temple will face off with Trousdale County next week. The game may be played on Thursday at Finley Stadium.

Temple is in just their fourth year as a varsity time and have put together a memorable season.

"We thought making the playoffs was a pretty reasonable goal," Beard said thinking back to the beginning of the season. "But going undefeated was an added bonus. We knew we had some talent but we also knew the region teams would give us fits."

Temple finished with 500 yards on offense, 337 of those coming on the ground. Erik Larson threw for 163 yards.

Georgia Northwestern Falls To Crown 73-60

The Bobcats have exactly 18 days to re-shape their game plan for their first ever NJCAA post-season appearance. A shortened roster struck by injuries throughout the 2011-12 campaign left Georgia Northwestern with only seven uniformed players in the home stand finale Monday night at The R.A.C. versus Crown College (TN).  In their final home game, the Bobcats played an extremely ... Vince Dean Picks Up For Senate Race; Tommie Brown Headed For Contest With JoAnne Favors

Rep. Vince Dean has picked up papers to run for the Senate District 10 seat now held by Democrat Andy Berke. And Rep. Tommie Brown picked up papers to retain her District 28 seat. That sets up a clash with Rep. JoAnne Favors, who picked up for District 28 earlier. Under Republican redistricting, Rep. Favors wound up in the Brown district. Rep. Dean, a Republican from East ... Thank You, Judge Mattice And Chattanooga

I would like to thank Judge Mattice for handing down a 30.5 year sentence for Kathleen Mathews.  Obviously, no amount of jail time, fines, or lashings can bring back Tim Chapin.   A 30-year sentence will, however, make the world just a little safer.  That's what Sgt. Chapin would have wanted.  He was a protector and sacrificed his life so the rest of ... (click for more)

Roy Exum: What 17 Pills Did To Me

Ah, step into my parlor of first-hand wisdom because, in the School of Hard Knocks, there are priceless lessons that you should know before it becomes your turn to dance. Never in my life have I ever had any back problems but, in early December, I came down with what is called sciatica and I have been a miserable man ever since. There are two big nerves that sprout out of the ... (click for more)
