On Thursday at 10:45 a.m. the Chattanooga Community Kitchen will be hosting a service to honor National Memorial Day for the homeless who have died throughout the year.
This service will consist of a brief introduction and a reading of the names of all of the homeless individuals that have died in Hamilton County since Jan. 1. To date, there are 15 names.
As each name is read, a candle will be lit on an empty tray in the Community Kitchen dining room. A bell will be tolled to remember each individual. Following the ringing of the bell, Karen McReynolds of the Chattanooga Regional Homeless Coalition will sing. Father Nelson of Saint Paul's Episcopal Church will offer a final prayer and blessing of the food. At the service's end, lunch will be served as usual. Mayor Ron Littlefield is scheduled to attend.
The service should last approximately 15-20 minutes and will begin promptly at 10:45. For more information call the Chattanooga Community Kitchen at (423) 756-4222. Everyone is welcome to attend.
