FOX-HD is now available through Comcast Cable Service in Chattanooga, WDSI TV announced.
Comcast subscribers will be able to watch FOX in High Definition on Channel 234.
It was also announced that Comcast will raise some of its rates starting Feb. 1. The average bill will go up by 2.3 percent.
Comcast’s 66-channel "standard" service go up $1.49 a month to $49.99.
On the FOX HD, officials said, "This development comes just in time for FOX’s broadcast of the Bowl Championship Series of NCAA Football. FOX Sports will also carry the NFC Playoffs and NASCAR’s Daytona 500 all in High Definition.
"Viewers will also have access to the full offering of FOX High Definition programming. This will include the premiere of 24 on Sunday, Jan. 14, as well as the premiere of American Idol on Tuesday, Jan. 16. FOX also offers most of its primetime line-up in High Definition as well.
"Subscribers of Comcast Cable Service will be able to enjoy the High Definition programming on digital Channel 234."
Tom Bailey of Chattanooga Comcast Cable said the High Definition programming is available with all cable packages of “Basic” or better. HD programming can be best utilized with a High Definition television with an ATSC receiver and digital tuner, or a digital converter box from Comcast.
FOX61 has been broadcasting in High Definition since July of 2006. The over-air HD signal will still be available for free. Viewers must have a digital receiver installed on their televisions to watch the over-air HD programming.
WDSI TV/DT is owned by Pegasus Broadcast Television of Scranton, Pennsylvania. It has been operating in the Chattanooga area since 1972.
