The Walker County Sheriff's Office has selected GovDeals a state-of-the-art, online auction service for local, state, and federal government agencies to conduct online sales of their unclaimed property and surplus equipment.
The Walker County Sheriff's Office joins the over 600+ government entities across the country who have adopted GovDeals "patented online auction solution that delivers pre-screened and qualified buyers and which translates into higher prices for auctioned equipment and assets," officials said.
“This service will help us get the most money out of our surplus equipment by offering them to a wider base of buyers through the Internet. The bottom line is more money returned to the citizens. We can now sell assets and offer a convenient opportunity for more of our citizens to participate,” said Walker County Sheriff Steve Wilson. “Another positive effect is that storage costs and vehicle and equipment depreciation losses are substantially reduced.”
“The GovDeals solution is a win-win for us,” said Sheriff Wilson. “We have the ability to immediately place a surplus item up for sale and within a matter of days, the item is sold and that money is returned to the taxpayers. The old system typically required an asset to be stored for up to one year before it could be sold. We’ve reduced the storage costs, eliminated depreciation, and exposed the asset to the vastness of the Internet.”
A recent study by the sate of Tennessee showed that equipment and assets brought 47% more sold through GovDeals than via prior live public auctions.
Items for sale will be posted continuously on the web starting Tuesday and can be accessed directly through www.govdeals.com. Bidders can register free of charge at the GovDeals website.
