Fire caused considerable damage to a vacant house in Alton Park on Thursday morning.
The Chattanooga Fire Department received the alarm at 9:40 a.m. and responded with several fire companies to 3502 Central Ave.
Battalion Chief Ben Biggs said fire had already broken through the roof when the first firefighters arrived on the scene. The firefighters got the fire out quickly and no injuries were reported.
The loss was estimated at around $30,000.
Captain James Whitmire with the Fire Investigation Division said the house was reportedly undergoing renovation and had not been occupied for several months.
Captain Whitmire also said the house was unsecured and was possibly being used by vagrants as a shelter. The cause of the fire is undetermined and under investigation.
