The wife of Congressman Zach Wamp is in Erlanger Medical Center in the intensive care unit in stable condition, but officials said they are "guardedly optimistic" about the situation.
Kim Wamp was taken to Erlanger on Friday with a kidney stone. She was treated and was able to go to her home in Lookout Valley.
Complications began on Saturday morning and she returned to the hospital.
Congressman Wamp cancelled a 2 p.m. press conference about funding for the Chickamauga Lock to stay by his wife.
Doug Fisher, Wamp aide, issued this statement early Monday afternoon:
Kim Wamp, the wife of Congressman Zach Wamp, is in stable but critical condition in the Intensive Care Unit at the Baroness Campus of Erlanger Health System in Chattanooga. Mrs. Wamp was admitted to the hospital over the weekend and is being treated for a serious kidney infection due to the presence of a kidney stone.
Congressman Wamp said, “The Wamp family is overwhelmed by the wonderful support in prayer and encouragement from our home and across the country. In times like this, you really understand the importance of family and friends.
“Kim and I will only ask for everyone’s continued prayers and patience as we look forward to her full recovery. We know that through prayer all things are possible.
“Thanks for your understanding of our situation and respecting our privacy during this difficult time. My office will be updating you as we learn more.”
