EARLY NOTIFICATION of Upcoming High-Impact Lane Closures As part of the Spring Creek Road and Germantown Road bridge repair projects listed above, the contractors have coordinated their work forces and have scheduled extensive 24 hour-a-day operations to perform the majority of the necessary interstate work on these two projects simultaneously. Work will be done on two adjoining weekends to minimize long-term inconvenience to the public. This work is anticipated to create significant traffic impacts and subsequent delays in the area of the I-24 and I-75 interchange in Chattanooga. Interstate lane closures for the Germantown Bridge on I-24 at mm 183 and Spring Creek Bridge over I-24 at mm 185 have been scheduled to begin on Friday, April 28, at 8 p.m. and end on Monday morning, May 1, at 5 a.m.

Further interstate work will resume with lane closures beginning on Friday, May 5, at 8 p.m. and ending on Monday morning, May 8, at 5 a.m. While every effort is being made to notify the public of the impending congestion for the two entire weekends, severe delays can be expected and finding an alternate route through the area is recommended. Should unforeseen circumstances or weather prevent any of this work from being performed, it will be rescheduled to take place as soon as possible.

I-75 Enterprise South Interchange (mm 9 to mm 11) The contractor is working on Phase 2 of this project. There are no lane closures scheduled at this time. Motorists should use caution and be alert to changing traffic conditions. Estimated completion date is December 2006. (Blalock Construction Company/EH)

I-24 East and West Bridge Repairs over Dodds Avenue and Westside Drive Work is underway on this project. Work on these bridges will not require any interstate lane closures, as the repair work is being done under the interstate bridges. Flaggers will be used to close lanes daily on Dodds Avenue and Westside Drive to facilitate overhead bridge repair work. Motorists should use caution and be alert to changing traffic conditions. Estimated completion date is June 2006. (General Constructors, Inc./ EH)

US-127 (SR-8, Signal Mountain Blvd.) from US-27 (SR-29) to SR-27 (Suck Creek Road) The contractor has implemented Phase 2 of this project and is working in several key areas. Currently the contractor will be cleaning up debris and doing short-term paving in preparation for placing the final surface. Some northbound and southbound lane closures may be required for this work but should be very short in duration. These closures, should they be necessary, will be performed between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Flagging operation will be set in place in order to route traffic around closures on SR-8 at the railroad crossing. Motorists who must travel through this area are asked to be patient and stay alert for changing traffic conditions. Estimated completion date is May 2006. (Thomas Brothers Construction Company, Inc./CG)

Installation of a Closed Circuit Camera System on various Interstate and State Routes in Chattanooga The contractor will be working throughout the Chattanooga area on various interstate and state routes installing a closed circuit television system for the monitoring of traffic. The contractor will implement lane closures at the following locations between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. to drill and install camera poles and pole foundations:
Thursday, April 20

Detours are posted and traffic is encouraged to use either the Olgiati Bridge (SR 29/US 27) or the Veterans Bridge (Georgia Avenue/Barton Avenue) as alternate routes. Some traffic delays can be expected, but should be short in duration. Estimated completion date is September 2007. (Mountain States Contractors, LLC/CG)

We Are Blessed To Have Ron Littlefield As Our Mayor

Chattanooga is blessed beyond measure to have Ron Littlefield as our mayor.  It is a total travesty our city has had to endure the long frivolous battle with absolutely  no foundation other than disagreement with policy issues.  It has always been a vendetta directed personally at Mayor Littlefield which, if the "interveners" decide to appeal, will be a proven fact.   ... Roy Exum: The Sadness Of The Recall

Judge Jeff Hollingsworth, his eagle eyes zeroed on the U.S. Constitution and the laws that have been put into place since it was adopted in 1787, ended the recall of Chattanooga Mayor Ron Littlefield Friday afternoon, but the pall of sadness that the effort cast over the city will last for a lot longer. If “time is money,” the whole deal cost us millions of dollars and even more ... (click for more)
