Kitchen Fire Damages Murray Hills Home

Tuesday, May 23, 2006

No injuries were reported in connection with a house fire on Monday night in the Murray Hills subdivision.

The Chattanooga Fire Department received the alarm at 8:43 p.m. and responded with several fire companies to 4206 Melinda Dr.

The first firefighters to arrive on the scene located the fire in the kitchen. It took the firefighters roughly 15 minutes to get the blaze under control. The dollar loss was estimated at $35,000.

Commander Don Eaves said the residents were home when the fire was discovered, and they reportedly tried to put the fire out themselves before giving up and getting out of the house.

The residents were renting the house, but did not have renter's insurance. Volunteers with the Red Cross were called in to provide assistance to the victims. The cause of the fire appears to be accidental, with food being left unattended on the stove.

Chapin would have wanted.  He was a protector and sacrificed his life so the rest of ... (click for more)
