House Fire Possibly Started By Lightning

Wednesday, May 03, 2006

Chattanooga firefighters responded to 3506 Wauchula St. early Wednesday morning on a reported house fire.

Upon arrival about 12:50 a.m., the crew from Quint 6 found heavy smoke and called for Engine 4 to lay a water supply line. Crews from Quint 6 and Engine 4 made an interior attack and were able to contain the fire to the garage.

Owners, Arthur and Lorraine Grantley, reported that they heard a "very loud boom and the power went out, then they smelled smoke and evacuated the house," Capt. Carson said. The fire itself originated in the home's breaker box in the garage."

Capt. Carson with Engine 4 said, "There were obvious signs that lightning had hit the house and entered through the service line."

Though the fire was contained to the garage, there was approximately a $7,500 fire loss to the structure and another $2,500 loss to contents. Except for some minor smoke damage, the rest of the house was untouched.

No injuries were reported.

Thank You, Judge Mattice And Chattanooga

I would like to thank Judge Mattice for handing down a 30.5 year sentence for Kathleen Mathews.  Obviously, no amount of jail time, fines, or lashings can bring back Tim Chapin.   A 30-year sentence will, however, make the world just a little safer.  That's what Sgt. Chapin would have wanted.  He was a protector and sacrificed his life so the rest of ... (click for more)
