All aboard for a wave-crashing adventure when the Tennessee Aquarium uncovers mysterious treasures of the sea, like the amazing creatures that inspired the movie “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest.”
To cast off with the Pirates of the Tennessean, the Aquarium is handing out pirate hats and eye patches to the first children who enter the building on July 27. Pirate look-a-likes will be on hand to entertain landlubbers with sea-lore and creature features -- like the history of our beautiful macaws and our other swashbuckling sea creatures.
In the Tropical Cove, aviculturist and educator Amy Graves will be on hand with the hyacinth macaw to explain to Aquarium campers and visitors about the history and mystery of pirates and parrots. Aquarist Sharyl Crossley, who cares for the Aquarium’s cephalopods (octopi and cuttlefish), will be in the Boneless Beauties gallery to talk about the fact vs. fiction regarding the “Kraken” and other mysterious sea “beasties” featured in “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest.”
The events will be Thursday, July 27, 9:30-10:30 a.m. in the Ocean Journey building “Tropical Cove” (Level 4) and “Boneless Beauties” (Level 3) galleries.
Pirates of the Tennessean will conclude Sept. 19, which is International Talk like a Pirate Day.
