House Burns On Lee Pike At Sale Creek

Monday, August 21, 2006

A house was destroyed by fire in the Sale Creek area on Monday morning.

The owner made a 9-1-1 call at 11 a.m. reporting a fire at 413 Lee Pike.

Soddy-Daisy Fire Department was the first unit on the scene confirming a fully involved house fire with possible vehicle endangerment. Due to the significant amount of fire, the Sale Creek Volunteer Fire Department and the Soddy-Daisy Fire Department requested a mutual aid response.

Sequoyah Volunteer Fire Department responded with fire apparatus and manpower. At least 20 firefighters were able to contain the fire to the single-story home.

According to Billie Neal, homeowner, he was using his computer when he heard a “popping” sound coming from the back bathroom. He opened the door and found the bathroom on fire. Mr. Neal said the fire was too large for him to try and extinguish. He immediately evacuated the home and called 9-1-1. His wife and grandson were not home at the time.

No injuries were reported. Hamilton County EMS was on the scene for potential injuries.

Damages are estimated at $70,000. Two adults and their grandchild lived at the residence. The American Red Cross was contacted to assist the family.

Also assisting were the Hamilton County EMS, the Soddy-Daisy Police Department and the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office.
