Early Morning Fire Leaves Family Homeless

Monday, August 07, 2006

Chattanooga firefighters responded to a house fire around 1:30 a.m. Monday at 4920 Cameron Lane.

Margaret Coleman and her daughter were home at the time, but they managed to get out of the house unharmed.

Captain David Powell with Quint 13 said the base of the fire was located in a living room, but the flames were beginning to extend into another room and up into the attic.

Battalion Chief Mike Knox said the firefighters managed to get the fire under control very quickly, with no injuries reported. The loss was estimated at around $15,000.

The Red Cross was called in to provide assistance to the victims. Chief Knox said the cause of the fire appears to be accidental, most likely from an electrical malfunction.
