Big River Grille and Brewing Works recently sponsored the 12th Annual Southern Brewers Festival, to raise funds for the United Way Agency, Chattanooga’s Kids on the Block. The brewfest consisted of 19 microbreweries from across the Southeast and welcomed over 8,000 patrons for a day of fun, festivities, food, and beer. The event featured over 30 premium ales and lagers and live music.

In total, the event raised $65,000 solely benefiting United Way Agency, Chattanooga’s Kids on the Block.

In a Sponsor Recognition Party, Senior Brand Manager for Gordon Biersch Brewery Restaurant Group, Kelly Wilson and Head Brewer of Big River, David Sharpe, presented the check to Sandra Brewer and Kathryn Dunn of Chattanooga’s Kids on the Block (CKOB).

CKOB, previously honored as the 2005 Non Profit of the Year by the Chattanooga Area Chamber of Commerce’s Small Business Council, is also a recent recipient of the 2006 Alfred P. Sloan Award for Business Excellence in Workplace Flexibility.

For the past 27 years, CKOB has been providing educational puppetry programs to schools and communities in Southeast Tennessee and Northwest Georgia. CKOB features life size puppets designed to teach children and adults about social concerns and differences in a non-threatening manner. The programs are free of charge to schools in eleven counties thanks to funding from the United Way, Tennessee Department of Children’s Services, Tennessee Donor Services, Chattanooga-Hamilton County Medical Society Alliance, Mental Health Association of Middle Tennessee, UnumProvident Corporation, individual donors and fundraisers such as the 12th Annual Southern Brewers Festival.
