Mathis, George B., Jr.

Coached Ball At East Lake Community Center

George B. Mathis, Jr., 61, of Chattanooga, died on Saturday, September 16, 2006 in a local hospital.

He was of the Church of God Faith and had coached ball at East Lake Community Center for many years. George was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps serving in Vietnam and was employed by Tucker Bonding Company.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Mildred Mathis and a niece, Rebecca Henson.

He is survived by his three children Teresa Higgins, Hixson, Tn., Terry Mathis, East Ridge, and George Mathis, III, Chickamauga, Ga.; four grandchildren, Ashley Hale, Charles Mathis, Brandon Mathis and Jonah Mathis; one sister, Martha Long, Chattanooga; two brothers, Bill Mathis, Cleveland, Tn. and Jimmy Mathis, Rossville, Ga.

Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, 404 South Moore Road with Bobby Henson, Sr. and Bobby Henson, Jr. officiating.

Burial will be in Chattanooga National Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. on Monday and 8AM–12:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mark Phillips Was Victim In Fatal Hixson Pike Wreck

Mark Phillips, 54, was the victim in a fatal Hixson Pike wreck on Saturday afternoon. Police said the driver of the Ford F150 that went out of control and struck the Phillips vehicle was 68-year-old Warren Elliott.
