Braden, Nell (South Pittsburg)

Nell Braden, 83, lifelong resident of South Pittsburg, died Monday, Sept. 25, 2006, at her home.

Ms. Braden was the daughter of the late Hugh and Mae Rogers Braden and was preceded in death by one brother, Paul Braden.

She received her education from South Pittsburg High School, Tennessee Wesleyan College and the University of Tennessee. Ms. Braden was a social studies teacher at South Pittsburg High School, retiring in 1983 after 35 years of teaching. As a teacher, she stressed the importance of current events and reading the newspaper. She also was active with her students in Mock United Nations for the Chattanooga area.

Ms. Braden was a member of Holly Avenue United Methodist Church where she had served on the administrative board. She was a director on the board of Holston Conference Colleges for years, which is the governing body for Tennessee Wesleyan, Hiwassee and Emory and Henry Colleges.

For a number of years, she owned and operated the Tot and Teen Shop in South Pittsburg.

Nell is survived by two nieces, Margaret Ann Rollins and husband, Benny, of Chattanooga; Paula Sue Braden, of Chattanooga; sister-in-law, Margaret Raulston Braden, of South Pittsburg; and one great-niece, Lauren Worley, of Alexandria, Va.

Services will be at Holly Avenue United Methodist Church in South Pittsburg, Thursday, at 1:30 p.m. CDT with the Rev. Dennie Humphreys and the Rev. Anthony Grills officiating. Interment will be in Cumberland View Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. CDT at Rogers Funeral Home in South Pittsburg, and Thursday at the church for one hour prior to the service.

Benny "Fred" Teeters

Mark Phillips Was Victim In Fatal Hixson Pike Wreck

Mark Phillips, 54, was the victim in a fatal Hixson Pike wreck on Saturday afternoon. Police said the driver of the Ford F150 that went out of control and struck the Phillips vehicle was 68-year-old Warren Elliott.
