Coppinger, Carroll Refute Ford Ad On Raises

Thursday, September 28, 2006

Jim Coppinger, Chattanooga’s Fire Chief from 1997-2005, and Lt. Tim Carroll, president of the Chattanooga Fraternal Order of Police and 24-year veteran of the Chattanooga police department, took issue with a Ford campaign advertisement accusing Bob Corker of “freezing the pay of Chattanooga’s police and firefighters.”

The ad claims Bob Corker “took three pay raises for himself, and yet nothing for police and firefighters.”

Mr. Coppinger, who is now a county commissioner, said, “I served as fire chief of Chattanooga during Mayor Corker’s entire administration and can certainly confirm that all firefighters and police officers received pay increases each year Bob Corker was mayor. Obviously, Congressman Ford’s ad is false. Bob Corker was and is a staunch supporter of public safety.”

Lt. Carroll said, “I’ve been with the Chattanooga police department for 24 years and every year Bob Corker was mayor we received pay increases. Bob Corker always looked out for the Chattanooga police force and anything said to the contrary is completely false.”

Thank You, Judge Mattice And Chattanooga

I would like to thank Judge Mattice for handing down a 30.5 year sentence for Kathleen Mathews.  Obviously, no amount of jail time, fines, or lashings can bring back Tim Chapin.   A 30-year sentence will, however, make the world just a little safer.  That's what Sgt. Chapin would have wanted.  He was a protector and sacrificed his life so the rest of ... (click for more)
