This was the most successful Australian Open of Ashley Harkleroad’s career. She advanced to the third round of the Women’s Singles draw after making to the second round last year.
Her performance tied her career-best performance in a Grand Slam singles event. Harkleroad also advanced to the third round at the 2003 French Open.
The Flintstone, Ga. native and her Russian partner, Galina Voskoboeva, lost 6-0, 6-0 to the Chinese Taipei team of Yung-Jan Chan and Chia-Jan Chuang in the quarterfinals of the Australian Open Women’s Doubles event.
In two previous doubles events at the Aussie Open in 2003 and 2004, she failed to move past the first round.
She had advanced to the third round in three previous Grand Slam doubles events. She made the third round in the 2002 U.S. Open and the third round in 2006 at Wimbledon and the U.S. Open.
Harkleroad is currently ranked 88th in the world in singles and 55th in doubles.
